Monthly Event

Viernes Culturales / Cultural Fridays is an artistic, cultural, and social arts and culture fair that takes place on the last Friday of each month in the Historic Little Havana neighborhood of Miami, FL, in the heart of Calle Ocho (S.W. 8th St. between 14th and 17th Avenues). A powerful venue for talented visual artists and entertainers, the monthly festival offers an opportunity for visitors and tourists to experience an evening of culture with the diverse flavors of the Latino community.

The event consists of outdoor musical performances on a stage and along the sidewalks of Calle Ocho, art exhibits along the streets, plazas and open spaces, visits to art galleries and cultural centers, cuisine tastings at participating restaurants, and films/art exhibits/ educational programs at the historic Tower Theatre. Free walking tours of Little Havana also take place during the festival.

Within the festival area are over a dozen art galleries featuring work by renowned Cuban and Latin American artists; most or all galleries are open during the event.

The event takes place the last Friday of each month between 6:30 pm and 11 pm.

Viernes Culturales on 9/24/10

For this Friday, Sept 24, Viernes Culturales/Cultural Fridays is bringing back its main stage to SW 8th St. & 15th Avenue. We're stepping up the energy, too, with the addictive rhythms and melodies of TimbaLive, one of Miami's hottest Latin bands. Other performance on the main stage include flamenco dance, Mariachi and cirque acts.

We're also having an art exhibit opening beginning at 7:30 pm at our own gallery, 742 SW 16 Ave. -- a group exhibit of dynamic, colorful abstract art curated by internationally renowned master painter Buruj Salinas. Little Havana has 17 art galleries you can visit during the festival, and in many of them you can meet the artist and see his or her studio.

As always we'll have talented local artisans, artists and writers selling their works in Domino Plaza and other public spaces, plus street performers and a free salsa casino class on SW 8th St. between 16th and 17th Aves! Tango lovers can visit DAF Studios at 1501 SW 8th St. (2nd Fl) for classes and then a milonga dance party until midnight.

Many of our local restaurants offer outdoor dining, with cuisine including Cuban, Uruguayan, Mexican, Thai/Sushi and Chinese -- and visit the fruteria at 13th Ave and SW 8th St. for fresh-squeezed sugarcane juice or tropical fruit shakes. Like live music? Even after 11 pm you can continue to enjoy live music in multiple venues including some of our art galleries, cigar stores and restaurants.

All in all, there's plenty to do this Friday night, so come early and bring friends!

Really fun

Viernes Culturales is a fun event. I enjoy the energy on the street, Calle Ocho is usually much more calm. All the restaurants, bars, and galleries have something going on. If you live on or near downtown, then it's only a few minutes away. I have even gone in my bike.
