Biscayne Boulevard is an important North-South street going through Miami. It is the name given to the stretch of U.S. Route 1 in Miami-Dade County, Florida. It begins just north of the Miami River in Downtown Miami, continuing through Park West and Midtown Miami all the way past Aventura to Broward County where it is called South Federal Highway.
Going South, Biscayne Blvd is called Brickell Avenue in the neighborhood of Brickell, south of the Miami River. It is called South Dixie Highway beyond that to the south. US Route 1 is also the same street that takes one all the way to Key West.
Historically, Biscayne Blvd has served as one of the most important thoroughfares in the county. For many years (prior to the construction of Interstate 95), it served as the main artery into the area bringing visitors and tourists. Today, Biscayne Blvd serves a multitude of uses, from residential to heavy commercial. In Downtown Miami, Biscayne Blvd is lined by dozens of skyscrapers.
