Brickell Avenue is the name given to the stretch of Route US1 that goes from the south end of the Miami River to the southern end of the Brickell neighborhood, from which it gets its name. It is the main street dissecting (north-south) through the Financial District of Brickell. The street is dominated by tall buildings and skyscrapers, many of which are banks.
In many ways, Brickell Avenue is considered the most prestigious street in the neighborhood. Within Brickell Avenue, one can find hotels, some (but not many) restaurants, and a few residential buildings. In recent years, the Brickell neighborhood and Brickell Ave have seen a transformation from a 9-5 work center into a growing 24 hour live work area. Brickell Avenue, which was once abandoned at night, has slowly begun to awaken in the evenings.
Brickell Avenue is also one block east of the bay and the baywalk. To the north of Brickell, US1 is known as Biscayne Boulevard.
