As the city's first and oldest burial ground, some of Miami's most influential historical figures are buried here, both white and black. Enjoy a nice stroll through the early days of the City of Miami at this important Cemetery.
Sections in the cemetery include two prominent circles: the first to Julia Tuttle (Mother of Miami) and the other to the United Daughters of the Confederacy. Other sections include the Spanish American War, the American Legion, a Jewish section and a catholic section. Among the 9,000 burials are pioneer families such as the Burdines, Peacocks and Dr. James Jackson. This site also has the only known five oolitic (limestone) gravestones worldwide.
The Cemetery is easily accessible through the Metromover. In 1989, it was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places.
