Although not as prominent as the Louvre in Paris or Met in New York, the Miami Art Museum is a growing art institution with a unique Latin/Tropical twist. Influenced by the eclectic and diverse culture of Miami, the Miami Art Museum is a great place to go enjoy some good art.

The Miami Art Museum (MAM) in Downtown Miami serves one of the most diverse and fast-growing regions of the country, where a confluence of North and Latin American cultures adds vibrancy and texture to the civic landscape. The city's thriving community of artists, designers, and collectors and its avid and growing art-viewing public, are driving Miami's demand for a world-class museum.

The museum is located in a raised cultural plaza that is shares with the Historical Museum of Southern Florida and the Miami-Dade Public Library next to the Government Center Metrorail / Metromover Station. The plaza and buildings were designed by famed American architect Phillip Johnson in a post modern Mediterrenean style.

The museum offers a variety of temporary and permanent exhibitions as well as events and special gathering including the monthly JAM at MAM.

Currently there are plans to move the museum to the proposed Museum Park at Bicentennial Park. The new design by internationally acclaimed architects Herzog & De Meuron is planned for around 2012.
