The legendary News Café in fabulous South Beach first opened in December of 1988. Mark Soyka and Jeffrey Davis wanted to create a quaint sidewalk and bookstore at the corner of bustling 8th Street and Ocean Drive, in the Art Deco Historic District of Miami Beach.
The concept was simple: start with a new kiosk and some bookshelves, surround them with tables, display a selection of local, national and international publications, play a mix of Jazz and Classical music, and serve from a basic menu of salads, sandwiches, desserts, fresh fruit juices and coffees. The café now serves up your common fare of burgers, pizza, paninis, soups, salads, etc. but also more refined dishes such as Babaganush, Paella, New York Steak, and sweet delicacies such as the Chocolate Fondue with Strawberries & Champagne.
News Cafe offers patrons a European-style experience, which has constantly changed and grown to accommodate the large crowds of Miami Beach. Open 24 hours a day, the café has expanded over the years to include a separate bar, full-service kitchen, additional sidewalk & courtyard seating, and a custom designed retail space to enhance the overall unique experience.
