
World Famous Ocean Drive, stretching from 5th to 15th street along the ocean, is the ocean doorfront of South Beach. When you see movies of girls rollerblading or models walking on the beach in Miami, this is probably where they where. Located at the southern end of Miami Beach, the street is famous for it’s Art Deco buildings, decadent style, and nightlife. Whether day or night, Ocean Drive is beating at a rapid, tropical pulse.
Not long ago, scenes such as those is Scarface dominated the streets of Ocean Drive. Drive by shootings, old retirees, and decrepit buildings dominated the landscape. Today nevertheless, things could not be any different. Ocean Drive is arguably one of the most recognizable settings in Miami, with its pastel lights and funky colors, Ocean Drive has a unique style unlike any other.
The streets are filled with open air cafes, bars, and restaurants for any taste and style. While kind of touristy and expensive at times, Ocean Drive does afford tourists and visitors a picturesque and colorful image of Miami. One won’t see many residents on this street, regardless, Ocean Drive alone attracts more energy than entire neighborhoods in other parts of Miami.
For those looking for some history and architecture, Ocean Drive also delivers. The street has some beautiful and well preserved Art Deco, Streamline Moderne, and Mediterranean buildings from Miami’s early days. The entire street, within the Historic Art Deco District, is a unique and colorful palette of Miami’s architectural history.
