Considered to be Miami’s oldest bar, Tobacco Road in downtown Miami has survived several Miami land booms, Al Capone, Prohibition, the Great Depression, the country at War, deadly hurricanes, Mariel Boatlift, race-riots, cocaine cowboys, and the rise and fall and rise of South Beach.

The Road has been a speakeasy, gambling den, gay bar, strip joint and blues bar. The two-story structure remains virtually unchanged since its inception in the early 1900s. And while ownership has changed, the primary purpose of the establishment – a neighborhood watering hole - has always been the same.

Great spot for live music and a relaxed, fun vibe. “Real food for real people” sums up Tobacco Road’s philosophy on food. In a town full of “haute cuisine,” locals and visitors alike depend on the menu for their traditional favorites. They smoke their own ribs, turkey and pulled pork. They also have salads made from locally grown produce and a vegetarian sandwich made with sprouts, avocados and tomatoes on black bread.

This bar has been serving customers for more than 97 years, including Gangster Al Capone who, legend has it, was a patron at The Road during Prohibition. They’ve assembled the best collection of single-malt scotches, ice cold brews, and premium liquors that you’ll find behind at any bar in America. Tobacco Road serves cocktails daily until 5 am.

I have been going to Tobacco

I have been going to Tobacco Road for years. The place offers a true authentic old school (Bohemian) Miami feel and is a bit of a departure from the typical Brickell establishment. It has both indoor and outdoor spaces.

I do not give it 5 stars because the place can get a bit crowded sometimes and I do not like the fact that there is a cover charge to get in on Friday and Saturday night.

Oldest Bar in Miami

Tobacco Road is in this old school Miami building with a lot of charm, although it is a bit run down. The place also has live music all week long and a decent kitchen with amazing specials throughout the week.

On weekends, Tobacco Road become a live music venue with multiple bands. The music can be hit or miss, and unfrotnately, they charge a small cover. Still though, it is a great place to go on weekends, especially when some of their famous festivals or events are going on.

I say check it out, its Miami's oldest bar after all.

Tobacco Road has some unbeatable deals for lunch and dinner. You can eat and drink for just 5 bucks during lunch time! They also have the best happy hour in all of downtown, nobody can touch that 98 cent drinks special every Friday!
