Don't let the name fool you, a Miami tradition for over 35 years, Versailles is 100% Cuban - owned by the Valls family. The restaurant/cafeteria provides an excellent casual diner in the heart of Little Havana - right on Calle Ocho. It features a great assortment of Cuban traditional specialties such as Ropa Vieja, the Cuban Sandwich, Chicken w/ Yellow Rice, house-made Fried Plantains, Churrasco, Picadillo, etc. And let's not forget the cafecito!
The establishment has become a landmark over the years, and it's come to be a typical hang-out for some really colorful characters. Its patrons are loud and full of excitement - this was party-central on the day that Fidel Castro was announced dead! Versailles is a great place to take your out-of-town friends for a complete immersion within the Cuban culture.
The building itself is adorned with ornate etched glass & statues, and also features a bakery, takeout window, and a banquet/party hall. Beware of the parking situation as it's not always easy to find a spot in this crowded area.
The Valls family owns and operates more than 10 Cuban restaurants in Miami alone - including multiple franchise locations of the famous La Carreta restaurants, and the more elegant Spanish Casa Juancho restaurant, just down the street.
