
The Miami Metro Zoo is the largest and oldest zoological garden in Florida. The zoo has over 100 exhibits with more than 2,000 animals representing over 400 species. It has over 40 endangered species, over 70 species of birds, and over 1,000 species of trees, plants and palms.
The zoo has recently begun major renovations. Recent opened, the $50 million, 27-acre Amazon and Beyond exhibit is the largest exhibit of tropical America flora and fauna in the United States and possibly the world. The size of an average zoo, with 120 additional species, including keystone animals like the anaconda, giant river otter, jaguar, and harpy eagle; Amazon and Beyond will significantly expand the Zoo’s collection and adds new conservation, research and educational opportunities.
